Under general direction of the Fraud Prevention and Detection Unit (FPDU) Manager, the employee works in collaboration with Disability Insurance (DI) field offices and the Investigation Division (ID), various units in Central Office, and other entities in EDD to lead projects and assignments associated with the various programmatic functions related to the DI FPDU, the unit is responsible for developing alerts and identifying data patterns for detecting, deterring, and preventing fraud.
Additionally, this group will work with the ID and other partners to constantly evaluate and improve the EDD fraud prevention and detection processes.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
