Our team at CARB's Community Air Quality Section (CAQS) is dedicated to continuously innovating ways to improve the accessibility and usability of AQview - CARB's new cloud-native air quality data portal.
For some background on AQview and CAQS, in accordance with AB 617, CAQS is responsible for developing and managing AQview to specifically address exposures to harmful pollutants in California's highly pollution-burdened environmental justice communities.
Based on a robust and sophisticated application infrastructure, AQview serves as the centralized data management system and provides simple, intuitive, and mobile-friendly user interfaces for the public especially community members to access, visualize, and analyze all air monitoring data across California, including community-level as well as regional-level air quality data and related information, in a timely and effective manner.
AQview is constantly being expanded and enhanced with more data and additional features to address the evolving needs of community members and other stakeholders.
The Section is also responsible for conducting comprehensive analyses of air quality data in communities (e.
g.
, trend analysis and other statistical analyses); helping inform the placement of air quality monitors; assisting in source attribution analyses; exploring big data analytics to reconcile measurement differences between various air quality monitor types to improve public understanding of air quality data; tracking progress and other metrics of success for community emissions reduction plans; informing community members about air quality in their region and helping them make informed decisions about daily activities; and developing and tracking cumulative health exposure burdens.
In general, the Section is responsible for community air quality data management, community air quality data visualization, and community air quality data analysis.
Under the close supervision of the Section Manager, the incumbent will assist in the operation, maintenance and enhancements of AQview, performing air quality data analysis and interpretation, presenting the results to community members and other stakeholders, preparing and presenting reports to other staff within the Division and CARB, conducting coordination, collaboration, and outreach activities for AQview, and will also assist in developing and conducting various other projects in the Section.
These duties require close interaction and teamwork with a broad range of scientists and engineers.

Working Conditions This is a Limited-Term Intermittent position for 12 months that can be extended to 24 months or possibly become permanent and will be limited to working up to 1,500 hours per year.
The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need.
Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework.
Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position's designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.
Position is in a high-rise building.
Requires being in a stationary position, consistent with office work, for extended periods.
Standard office environment (for example, artificial lighting, controlled temperature, etc).
Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
