Student Assistant - Data Analyst (Remote)

Description The Conservation Energy Commission (CEC) is seeking to hire a data analyst student assistant position to collect and analyze electrical generation data, create analytical products, and contribute to publications and web pages of the unit.
The position may also assist with programming, engineering, or other related tasks, under the general supervision of an Electric Generation System Specialist II in the SDAU in the Data Integration & Policy Office of the Energy Assessments Division.

Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc.
is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc.
and the employee.
This means that either University Enterprises, Inc.
or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

Prerequisites Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.

six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.

Majors/Fields of Study Aerospace Science and Engineering, Atmospheric and Climate Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civic Engineering, Computational Analysis, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering, Engineering Design, Engineering Technology, Environmental Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Work Schedule Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM.
The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.
Additional Work Schedule Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).
Minimum Qualifications Possess a cumulative 2.
0 GPA or above.
Proficiency in Microsoft (MS) Excel (formulas, graphs, and pivot tables).
Ability to edit with MS Word and use web-based email.
Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical members of the public to obtain data and provide instructions.
Preferred Qualifications Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority.

Skills with Adobe Acrobat and Office 365.
Experience entering numerical data.
Knowledge of programming or engineering skills.
Knowledge of California's electricity generation system as well as basic understanding of different energy sources.
Duties and Responsibilities Review data filings received for completeness.
Working with lead staff, identify and resolve potential errors.
Contact data filers to obtain complete and accurate data filings.
Organize and file received data.
Enter received data using web-based applications and other portals.
Monitor status of data filings and update staff.
Run automated queries of data using a web portal.
Assist staff in analyzing data using Excel and other related software.
If necessary, learn additional data analysis software over time.
Use knowledge of basic descriptive statistics to help summarize and describe data.
Assist lead staff to produce reports and web products on energy data and prepare them for public posting.
Answer questions from data filers for information on reporting forms.
Respond to requests from other offices and the general public for information on data sets.
Other duties as required consistent with the above responsibilities and duties.
Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
Working Conditions Work is performed in a remote environment.
Employees will be required to work according to the current UEI remote workplace policy and sign a UEI telework agreement.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
